Stock Market Investing and Boredom
This quote by Jim Cramer sums up an important principle: “You can’t become a great investor by watching from the sidelines or giving up after a few losses; you have to be willing to get in the game and stay in it.”
Why do people start one thing only to move on to another? One reason he cited is boredom. I’ve seen this in clients. We get 9 weeks into our stock market investing coaching program and they decide suddenly to change directions - completely. Normally the reason isn’t that they are making progress or seeing results, it’s just that they get bored.
So that is why one of the first discussions I have with my students addresses this topic. Pick stocks that you have personal interest in. For example, I love technology stocks because I’m endless fascinated with technology. So I will enjoy following them and doing the more mundane tasks because I see it as part of something bigger that I care about.
Another thing that’s good with coaching is your coach will acknowledge your progress. They will keep you going in the inevitable times you can’t see the results of your hard work. Without that support most people get bored and quit. It’s human nature but it’s something you can work through with someone who’s committed to your success.
