E Commerce Secrets: What Wikipedia’s plans mean to you.

e-commerce.jpgIn today’s e commerce secrets blog, I will talk about the new search engine Wikea. There have been rumblings for months that Jimmy Wales was going to create a search engine to challenge the likes of Google, Yahoo, MSN, and the like. Well, it is going to happen. Wales announced in Portland Oregon the other day that he plans on forming a start up company called Wikea that will change the way users search the internet. Wales is a pretty bright businessman with a track record of success behind him, so there is no reason to think that Wikea will not also be a success.

So the big question is: what is so different about Wikea? About thirty percent of all searches done in the world are done through Google. They use algorithms that to index web pages in order to determine the most relevant material for a search. Wikea will use this element, but will also use human editors to sift out the remaining material. This will make searches even more accurate than Google, but it also means that web editors could feasibly be the deciding factor of whether your site makes it to the top of search queries. We’ll have to keep an eye on this development. Stay tuned for more e commerce secrets.
