On yesterday’s e commerce secrets blog, I started counting down the SIIA, or Software Information Industries Association’s Top 10 E Commerce innovations for the last ten years. Well, today I will count down the final five most important innovations. These are key e commerce secrets that will help you achieve success in your business.

5. Google Ad Words: Although this is listed as number 5, I think it is a little unfair. Ad words generate an enormous amount of profit for Google, and while that may be good for them, they make it difficult for a company to get a high ranking in a website without having to pay for it. Either way, they are a sure fire way to get your site listed on the first page.

4. Amazon: Can you even remember when Amazon didn’t exist? This site opened the vaults of many book sellers and offered them an avenue to make money on books, music and a host of products that they otherwise would have a hard time selling. It is also the place to go for well priced products.

3. eBay: Wow, I was surprised this wasn’t ranked even higher. Face it, eBay has revolutionized the internet and created a host of small businesses. In addition, eBay works like a virtual garage sale. You can sell the items you no longer deem worthy, or you can purchase hard to get items, like the Nintendo Wii, and resell it for a nice profit. It is not just a business either. eBay for many is like an addicting game, and the auction adds an element of excitement to your purchases.

2. Broadband. Broadband, and particularly affordable broadband has opened up the internet to virtually everyone in the country. The critical component is, of course, speed. No longer do you have to wait an hour for your web page to download! Broadband opened up doors for internet gaming where high speed is required for good game play.

1. Google: Yes, Google is that important. It is used by an astonishing thirty percent of all internet users, and really can not be considered on of the e commerce secrets. With the exception of Google Ad Words, Google provides a democratic approach to internet queries. Like the phone, it has become an essential element for business people.
