There are some instances where you may not want to invest in certain type of companies. Of course if you invest in indiviual securities, you are able to choose your companies.
If you invest in mutual funds or do dollar cost averaging, you may not get the option as to the companies support. Let’s say you don’t want to own stock from a company that sells certain items that you morally don’t agree with - what can you do if your mutual funds contain those securities.
There are ways to making sure your investments line up with your morals. Several investment firms offer ’socially responsible’ investing. Ask your broker or securities company about this option if you so desire.
