It appears that the old rhetoric that was spawned out of the Cold War has returned with somewhat of a vengeance. Russian President Vladamir Putin has turned up the heated speech, and there is no mistaking about exactly who he is taking aim at. Putin now states that he thinks that outside influences are trying to break up his country and exploit it for its resources. This was a veiled reference to the United States, and it is somewhat discouraging considering that Putin seems to be turning back the clock on the reforms made earlier in the country.

There was more unsettling news coming out of the Middle East this weekend, and its effect is being felt on Wall Street. Pakistan’s President, Pervez Musharraf, has sought emergency government control as he tries to quell those who oppose him. Close to four thousand people have been arrested as Musharraf has cracked down on radical Islamics. The problem is that much of Pakistan’s debt is funded by the west, and there is a growing sense that Musharraf is losing control of the country. There is a fear that a radical sect could take over power and destabilize the entire region, including Afghanistan which neighbors the country in crisis.

Today the stock market has had mixed results. Part of this is due to the ongoing crisis concerning the sub prime market which is causing major upheavals across the entire market. But investors were not entirely convinced that the market was in decline. This is because there was a surprisingly strong jobs report that was issued for October. In addition to this, there was a larger than expected number of new factory owners, and this has investors thinking that despite the credit crunch, the economy still seems to be going along at a pretty brisk pace.

Well, the market was up this morning, but slid as the day went on. Google was once again in the news as they announced a possible deal with MySpace. Google wants to get into the social networking sector after Microsoft invested heavily in MySpace’s main competitor, Facebook. The move added another few dollars to Google’s already huge share price. Google is looking to purchase the social networking giant which is now owned by News Corp. News Corp was surprisingly down almost one percent, but we will have to wait and see if it will bounce back again. Be sure to come back tomorrow to see if there are any updates concerning Google, Myspace or other technology sector stocks.

The news coming out of Wall Street lately seems to be pretty poor. With the exception of Google, whose shares are up over seven hundred dollars right now, it seems that a lot of quarterly reports are not hitting the marks that had been predicted before. Chrysler has had to cut over ten thousand jobs, oil futures are at record highs, and now it appears that Blockbuster is struggling too. This could be because of all the downloadable sources for movies right now, but it is hard to say. Hopefully there is a silver lining in the cloud somewhere.

There was good and bad news on Wall Street this week. Chrysler has decided to cut over twelve thousand jobs in addition to cutting four models from the production floor. This is an obvious attempt to save money, and why it may nudge their stock price up a bit, it is still hard to think of that many people being out of work. So that was the bad news, but there was some good news. Google’s stock has gotten up over seven hundred dollars a share! This is just unbelievable about how well they have performed. The stocks opened up just a few years ago at eighty five dollars a share, and now look at it.

It is not very often that the FCC has an impact on the financial markets, but they did today. In a move that should be celebrated by consumers everywhere, the FCC ruled that apartment building complexes and the like cannot restrict the choices in television services. That means that cable companies and satellite companies can no longer have a monopoly on these places, and the consumer will benefit from the increase in competition, not to mention the choices that they now have. Of course, this will affect all complexes across the United States, and the issue will no longer be up to the state courts.

The Federal Reserve has had to cut interest rates over the last few times they have met to stave off a possible recession to the economy. Well, the story did not change today, and the Federal Reserve cut rates one more time. This seems to be a move meant to counter the terrible crisis with the sub prime mortgage situation. The failure of this sector of the economy has left many investors hard hit, and it truly threatened the economy as a whole. For now, we shall see if the rate cut was enough to quell any fears that investors have.

Recently, Congress voted to ban internet taxes for another seven years. This was a widely popular move, and it came just in the nick of time. On Thursday, the old ban was set to expire and this would have allowed state and local governments to start taxing internet access. President Bush is expected to sign the bill because he actually believes that there should be a permanent ban on any internet tax. This is good news for all those e commerce gurus.

There has been a lot of speculation recently concerning a possible phone that would be set up by Google. Well, it looks like it is finally ready to hit the market, but it is not exactly a phone. The rumor is that Google will be offering an operating system for mobile phones that will change the way we talk and do business. Right now, many mobile phones have Wi-Fi ability, but this feature has been turned off by the carriers. Well, the new operating system from Google will address this and allow web browsers to surf the web for free so long as there is a signal to be had.
